Warwick & Stratford-upon-Avon
Saturday 11th June 2022
Join us for a day out on our first rail tour with two destination choices on offer. The medieval market towns of either Stratford-Upon-Avon or Warwick.
Our Journey will take us east from Taunton, across the Somerset Levels, through Langport and Somerton and on via Westbury to the Vale of Pewsey. From here we join the Kennet & Avon canal as we head towards Reading. From Reading we hug the River Thames for a while before diverging at Didcot and heading north, our train continues through Oxford and Banbury before arriving at Warwick (1200) for those visiting Warwick. At Hatton we take the single track Stratford-upon-Avon branch through Claverdon before arriving in Stratford-Upon-Avon for an afternoon break (1230-1715). With everyone back on board, our train heads north again, through Henley-in-Arden, Birmingham Snow Hill, Kidderminster and Worcester, where we take the Cotswold line through Evesham to Oxford to retrace our outward journey.
A medieval market town on the River Avon and the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Stratford boasts Tudor Architecture and many independent and High street stores for those looking for some retail therapy. You could visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage or just sit and relax on the river banks.
Warwick offers the opportunity to explore not only the architectural gems of the mediaeval history but also specialist and independent shops. Visit Warwick Castle or take a stroll in St Nicholas Park and along the River Avon. Those visiting Warwick will join road coaches to re-join the train at Stratford-Upon-Avon in the afternoon.
